Cedar Park Day Care is one of the first established childcare centres in Sudbury and has been in operation for over 40 years. Our qualified educators work as a strong team to ensure equal access for children of all abilities. We support and encourage meaningful participation in all activities by creating opportunities for all children to grow, develop, and learn with peers. Our supportive environment builds positive relationships that embrace and appreciate the diverse needs of the children and families we support. All educators have professional training in Early Childhood Education or equivalent and are committed to growing within the field through ongoing professional development. All educators maintain a valid First Aid/CPR certificate and a vulnerable reference check.
Cedar Park Day Care Incorporates a “High Scope” Curriculum
Our High Scope curriculum helps children excel in language and cognitive learning. It promotes independence, curiosity, cooperation, persistence, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Our strategies include supporting children’s play, using encouragement instead of praise, and taking a problem-solving approach to conflict. The High Scope program provides a consistent routine that provides a balanced variety of experiences and learning opportunities. Children engage in both individual and social play, participate in small and large group activities, assist with clean up, socialize during meals, develop self-care skills, and exercise their small and large muscles. Children make choices about what they will do, carry out their ideas, and reflect upon their activities with staff and peers.
Children are “active learners” who learn best from activities that they plan and carry out themselves. Children have daily opportunities to decide what they want to do. Learning occurs when children are involved in activities or projects they chose or organize themselves. Educators build upon, not direct or control, the thoughts and actions of the children. The educator’s role is to provide an environment that promotes active learning and enables the children to think about their actions.
